Excellent! Easy as pie. I’m now sprinting with 500G 7200RPM. But – beware: I found out that the Leopard OS disk that came with my machine rejects the new disk (“Cannot install OS X to this machine”). The good news: You don’t need to reinstall the OS. Simply use the disk utility to restore the disk image from your old hard drive (tethered by USB cable). It took 4 hours to restore 170G. But, when I rebooted, my entire computer was exactly, precisely as before. Just much fatter!

Recently upgraded a 2007 17″ macbook pro from Hitachi 160GB 5400RPM to Hitachi 500GB 5400RPM. Presently the hard drive has a low constant clicking sound and the left fan runs constant at low rpm. I was extremely cautious when installing. Any one experience something similar?

Fantastic! I have to replace my hard drive once the new one arrives this week. You just took all the guess work out of the job. Thank you very much.
